Perilymph

  • Perilymph of the scala vestibuli and scala tympani (both are available from the helicotrema in conjunction )
  • Endolymph of the scala media

The perilymph ( from Latin lymph lymphatic " clear water " with Greek prefix peri "near" for ) is a lymphähnliche liquid between membranous and bony labyrinth of the inner ear. Thus surrounds the membranous semicircular canals and the worm gear ( cochlear duct ).

The perilymph is necessary for the function of hearing. The movements of the ossicles stimulate the perilymph to vibrate, which in turn shatter the wall of the cochlear duct. The latter leads to an excitation of Hörrezeptoren ( hair cells) the organ of Corti.

The perilymph is probably a plasma filtrate through a blood - perilymph barrier. She is also probably starting product for the endolymph. Perilymphbildungsmöglichkeit as an ultrafiltration of the blood and a derivative of the cerebrospinal fluid is believed. The perilymphatic space is connected via the Perilymphgang ( ductus perilymphaticus or cochlear aqueduct ) with the subarachnoid space of the brain. The compositions of perilymph and cerebrospinal fluid are similar, but not identical.
