Period (school)

A jumping hour (often referred to as the same content as hollow hour or free period ) is a period in the school timetable in which the persons concerned are not involved in any classroom.

In particular, for teachers, it often (often several times a day ) before that to be issued between two lessons are one or more hours in which no regular instruction is to be given (according to schedule ). This jumping lessons can then be used for organizing or preparing lessons. In addition, teachers are available during the NTPs for representation lessons. To secure the representation of teaching school principals will also fall by the respective ministries of education, deliberately enough to integrate with Spring hours in the schedules of teachers. For this reason, unions argue that NTPs should be considered as emergency service.

Also students can so-called " window " in their schedule, so have jumping lessons, in which they spend without further education or care one lesson. The students are generally residence or work areas are available, where they can use the time wisely. Depending on the school organization jumping lessons are purposely integrated in the lunch area, to allow students to eat lunch.

Because of the care and duty of supervision of the schools are jumping lessons at primary and secondary level only in rare cases. With increasing autonomy of students jumping lessons are often in upper secondary education they are - justified by the organization in the course system - hardly avoidable.
