Periorbital dark circles

Called dark circles, eyes or halonierte Halonierung periorbital region, is an expression of dark, bluish discolored skin or shady areas around the eyes that can occur in various underlying diseases and disorders of the general condition of the people accompanying. The clearest discoloration falls in the region below the eye socket (orbit ).

A distinction is made between:

  • Hyperpigmentation of the skin
  • A dark discolored skin due to the underlying vessels

In most cases, the cause of an acute onset of dark circles and lack of sleep can be a sign of a hypersensitivity reaction ( atopy ). Chronic eye circles can be, among others, the result of reduced oxygen supply to the vessels, dehydration, malnutrition, iron deficiency, environmental toxins, allergies, conjunctivitis, inflammation, as well as prolonged use of alcohol or other drugs. After prolonged drug use, it may take weeks to months, until the dark circles completely disappear again. Dark circles can also innate, ie be genetic ( predisposition ).

The visible discoloration, which is not due to a pigment disorder is due to the under the skin blood vessels and lymphatics. The skin around the eyes is particularly thin, therefore has only a weak subcutaneous fat, so that the underlying vessels can shine through the skin. In poorly perfused vessels the blood contains less oxygen and thus appears darker, which can reproduce color especially around the eyes.

From home remedies such as the use of tea bags or hemorrhoid creams for dark circles is not recommended as they may contain components that can trigger an allergic reaction, and also with regular use of anti-inflammatory hemorrhoids creams skin thickness decreases. For lamination of dark circles use especially women cosmetic products, for example in the form of concealer.
