Peristeri B.C.

GS Peristeri (Greek ΓΣ Περιστέρι ), completely Gymnastikos Syllogos Peristeriou (Greek Γυμναστικός Σύλλογος Περιστερίου ), is a Greek basketball team from the suburb in Athens Peristeri. The club plays in the 2013/2014 season in the B Ethniki third-rate.

History

Founded in 1971, Peristeri belonged in the 1990s the most important clubs in Greece. During this period, the club was a permanent international presence and in the 2000/2001 season after the regular time even on the second place in the A1 Ethniki. In 2000, the club was one of the participants of the newly founded ULEB Euro League and presented with Alphonso Ford 's most successful basketball player of the competition. In addition, one reached in the 2000 /01 season after the main round in second place, level on points with the defending champion and first Panathinaikos Athens. In the play-offs but it was eliminated in the semi-final against Olympiakos Piraeus. After a further participation in the ULEB Euro League (2001/2002) and participation in the FIBA EuroCup Challenge (2002/2003) as well as the FIBA EuroCup (2003/2004) followed due to insolvency of relegation to the third Greek League (B Ethniki ). 2007, the club rose to the A2 Ethniki. Between 2009 and 2013, played in the Peristeri again highest Greek league.

Other important players from Peristeris most successful periods in the 1980s and 1990s were, among others the future NBA player Marko Jarić, the European champion and two-time winner Euro League Konstantinos Tsartsaris and longtime team captain Angelos Koronios, who leads the statistics for points scored, assists and steals the A1 Ethniki today.
