Headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts. PerkinElmer Inc. is listed in the S & P 500 Index. In 2008, the company had globally achieved a turnover of about 2 billion dollars and about 8800 employees.

Founded "The Perkin- Elmer Company" in 1937 by Richard S. Perkin and Charles W. Elmer, first to the development of optical components. In the year 1943, the company entered into the development of analytical instruments.

From 1954 to 2001 in Lake Constance Perkin -Elmer GmbH & Co. KG were also in Germany, developed and produced in Überlingen on Lake Constance, analyzers.

The Environmental Health Division is divided into the following product segments:

• Analytical Science & Laboratory Services develops and manufactures instruments and reagents for analytical instrumentation and offers servicing industry.
• Illumination & Detection develops and manufactures sensors and lighting technologies, inter alia, in the LED sector.

PerkinElmer Human Health

The Human Health Division is divided into the following product segments:

• Bio -discovery develops and manufactures instruments and reagents for cell biology research and diagnostics.
• Genetic screening develops and manufactures instruments and reagents for the diagnosis in the pre-and neonatal application and other applications in human medicine.
• Medical Imaging develops and manufactures digital X-ray panels for medical and industrial applications.
