The Perm Region (Russian Пермский край / Permski krai) is an administrative region ( kray ) in Russia. It was created on 1 December 2005 from the previous Perm Oblast and the Autonomous District of the Komi - Permyaks.

The region is located in the far east of Europe west of the Ural Mountains and is bordered to the north by the Republic of Komi and the west and south of Udmurtia and Bashkortostan. The most important river is the Kama, the three large reservoirs ( Kamastausee, Votkinsk reservoir and Nischnekamsker reservoir) is dammed. The region is characterized by a continental climate, which is further enhanced by the nearby Urals.

The population includes not only Russians and Tatars and Komi - Permyaks.

The main industries include the chemical industry, oil refining and wood processing.

Administrative divisions and largest cities

The Perm region is divided into 42 Rajons and 6 urban districts (including a " closed city " / SATO: Zvezdny ).

Major cities beside the capital of Perm are Beresniki and Solikamsk. In total there are in the region of 25 cities and 30 urban-type settlements.
