Perm Mosque

The Mosque of Perm (Russian Пермская соборная мечеть ) was built in the years 1902-1903 as the first mosque of needs in the Uralvorland Russian city of Perm; The building was financed by local Tatar merchants and their families, the building was designed by architect Alexander Ozhegowa.

The Muslim community was in 1901 permission to build a mosque in the densely populated Tatar district of the city, and on 23 September 1903, the building has already been inaugurated.

Due to the anti-religious measures within the Soviet Union it was closed on 11 September 1936. According to the website of the mosque there was in October 1937 ten arrests of Muslims, among them were probably also the Imam of the community and other people of the Mosque Management Board; all members of the Board of Perm mosque said to have been shot. 1940, the mosque into state ownership.

On 4 April 1990, the mosque was again handed over to the Muslim community.
