Permanent Peoples' Tribunal

The permanent international tribunal is an independent, involving governments, international institution that examines situations in which it comes to human rights violations or violations of the rights of peoples. There is no fixed place of meetings.

History

The Tribunal was established in 1979 following the Russell Tribunals that investigated named after and co-founded by Bertrand Russell human rights violations in the Vietnam War. Lelio Basso took part in the latter tribunals and worked towards this permanent international tribunal whose founding he did not live.
