Peroxodisulfuric is an oxoacid of sulfur ( Marshall'sche acid). It forms white, water-soluble crystals. Peroxodisulfuric is highly oxidizing. It is, for example, for the production of hydrogen peroxide ( to hydrolysis ) can be used for hydroxylation of phenols as well as the pickling solution for the surface treatment of metals. Its salts, the Peroxodisulfates, are much more stable than the acid and are used as strong oxidizing agents.

Synthesis

The production of peroxodisulfuric acid in the electrolysis solution is technically an approximately 50 % sulfuric acid solution at a high current density. In the lab to use for purification of the same reaction, which leads to the peroxomonosulfuric acid, with an excess of chlorosulfonic acid.
