Perpignan Cathedral

The Saint -Jean -Baptiste Cathedral ( German: St. John the Baptist Cathedral ) is a Roman Catholic church building in the French Perpignan.

History

The church building was built in the 14th century in Gothic style. Construction began in 1324. However Construction spiked during the 14th century, and came as a result of Pestwellen in Europe to a standstill. Only in 1433 the construction was resumed and completed until the early 16th century. Already in 1453 the first mass was celebrated in the Church. Interior and equipment

Organ

The cathedral houses an organ, whose origins probably lie in the 15th century, and has grown over the century on. Instrumental in the present instrument was the organ builder Aristide Cavaillé -Coll.

The first organ was probably built in the 15th century. The instrument had 21 stops on two manuals and pedal. The date of construction and the builder are unknown. Get this instrument is of the imposing organ case, which is 19.75 m high and 8.8 m wide.

Over the century, the instrument was modified several times, supplemented, modified and extended the disposition. 1550 Rückpositiv has been added, which however has been removed in the 19th century by Cavaillé -Coll. In the years 1685 - 1688 the organ builder Jean de Joyeuse built a new organ; it had 28 registers on three manuals and pedal. Aristide Cavaillé -Coll was already in 1854 a contract to build a new organ with 58 stops on four manuals and pedal, reusing 33 existing registers. The plant was set up in the original case, which backwards, ie was extended to the wall of the nave towards. In 1857, the organ was inaugurated. 1928-1930, the instrument was reorganized again and expanded to 17 registers, and back in the years 1991-1993 by the organ builder Jeanrenaud (Nantes ) to the state by 1857. The organ has 59 stops on four manuals and pedal today. The play and Registertrakturen are mechanical.

The choir organ was built in 1879 by organ builder Aristide Cavailéé -Coll. The instrument is hidden behind the main altar. It has 14 stops on two manuals, which are respectively applied swellable. The pedal is attached, has no separate tab. The play and Registertrakturen are mechanical.
