The perplexity (English perplexity ) is a parameter used to assess the quality of models of probability distributions.

It is closely related to the cross-entropy:

In contrast to the cross-entropy, the perplexity increases with the same explanatory power at much higher numbers. Many of them will therefore be seen as illustrative.
