Perry County (Alabama)

The Perry County is a county located in the state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Marion.

Geography

The County is located southwest of the geographic center, is about 110 miles from the Mississippi River and has an area of ​​1875 square kilometers, of which twelve square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bibb County, Chilton County, Dallas County, Marengo County and Hale County.

History

Perry County was formed on 13 December 1819. It was named after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry Rhode Iceland, a hero in the War of 1812. The first county seat was Muckle 's Ridge, later renamed Marion.
