Perry County (Kentucky)

Perry County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hazard.

Geography

The County is located in Eastern Kentucky, is located in the southeast about 20 miles from Virginia and has an area of 887 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Breathitt County, Knott County, Letcher County, Harlan County, Leslie County and Clay County.

History

Perry County was formed on November 2, 1820 from parts of Clay County and Floyd County. It was named after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, a war hero of the Navy of 1812.
