Perry County (Tennessee)
Perry County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Linden.
Geography
The County is located in west-central Tennessee and has an area of 1095 square kilometers, of which 21 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Humphreys County, Hickman County, Lewis County, Wayne County, Decatur County and Benton County.

History
Perry County was formed on November 14, 1818 from parts of Hickman County. It was named after Oliver Hazard Perry, a U.S. naval officer in the British -American War.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Perry County 7,631 people in 3,023 households and 2,164 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 96.55 percent White, 1.70 percent African American, 0.34 percent Native American, 0.09 percent Asian, 0.14 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.33 percent from other races groups; 0.84 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.80 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,023 households out of which 30.6 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.3 percent were married couples living together, 8.8 percent were single mothers and 28.4 percent were non-families. 25.2 percent of all households and 12.9 percent lived in persons aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average household size was 2.96 people.
24.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.5 percent between 18 to 24, 25.4 percent between 25 and 44, 26.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 16.4 percent were older than 65, the average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 99.0 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.3 males.
The median income for a household was $ 28,061, and the median income for a family was $ 34,792. Males have a median income of $ 26,626, women $ 21,053. The per capita income was $ 16,969. 12.6 percent of families and 15.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
