Persipura Jayapura

Persipura Jayapura is an Indonesian football club based in Jayapura in the region of West Papua, the Indonesian part of New Guinea.

History

The club was founded in 1950. In 1976 Jayapura first time the Indonesian Championship, which was then still an amateur competition. 2005 was followed by another title, this time in the Indonesia Super League, founded in 1994, the Indonesian professional league. Home of the association is the Mandala Stadium, which holds 15,000 spectators. Players Jayapuras are mainly Melanesian origin due to the location of the town in the Indonesian part of New Guinea.
