Persistence of Time is the fifth studio album by American thrash metal band Anthrax. It was published in August 1990 in Iceland Records and reached 1991 in the USA gold status for selling 500,000 units .. In 1991 it was nominated for the Grammy Award for Performance Best Metal, but could not prevail.

During the recording was destroyed by fire in the rehearsal room the band instruments and equipment worth about $ 100,000. The band then gave way to the A & M Studio in Hollywood, where they finished the recordings with the help of engineers Michael Barbiero and Steve Thompson, who had already worked for Guns N 'Roses, Tesla and Metallica.

The album with Got the Time, a cover version of a song by Joe Jackson. It was released as a single and reached number 16 in the UK singles charts. The music video for the song received airplay on MTV for several weeks. Steve Huey of Allmusic called the album in the same breath as Among the Living, when it comes to determining what is the best album of the band. Anthrax show here of a more serious side than on the previous albums, the titles were directed against hatred and prejudice, but never without a trace of optimism. Thomas copper from Rock Hard referred to the album as " compact disc ... actually not a single track on the approach to criticism offers ", but complains that there are no " absolute [ n] Highlights" on the plate befänden. Charles Theel of The Metal Observer called the album the best of the band, because everything fit together: the dark atmosphere meant a return to the early works, the guitar riffs are precisely placed and add everything up together like a puzzle.
