Perućac lake

The Perućacsee ( serb. / Bosn. Perućačko Jezero or Перућачко језеро ) is a reservoir on the Drina River on the border between Serbia and Bosnia- Herzegovina. It has an area of 12.4 km ² and a maximum depth of 70 m. The water table is at 290 m height.

The reservoir extends between Visegrad and Bajina Basta over a length of about 50 km. He is surrounded by the mountains in the north OSAT, Bokšanica between which the Drina flows in a up to 1000 meters deep gorge in the west and in the east Zvijezda.

In summer 2010, the water level of the lake was lowered for two and a half months due to maintenance at the dam. During this time, dozens of volunteers from Sarajevo searched under the leadership of the Bosnian Institute for Missing the now exposed river banks. To September 23, the remains were found of at least 373 people who were believed to have been dropped as the massacre of the Muslim population of Visegrad in the spring of 1992 to the victim and thrown into the Drina. In addition, the remains of three German Wehrmacht soldiers were discovered.
