The caves Filefish ( Pervagor janthinosoma ) lives in the tropical Indo-Pacific from the coast of East Africa to Samoa, north to southern Japan and south to New South Wales and Tonga.

Features

He is 13 to 14 inches long, the head and front body are bluish, the body green and the caudal fin orange-red. The gill opening is black. The first ray of the dorsal fin stands alone and is heavily developed. The rest, weichstrahlige dorsal fin, anal fin, and the pectoral fins are transparent. Males have on the tail a velcro -like zone glandular dermal appendages.

Way of life

Cave file fish live very hidden lagoons, rocky and outer reefs at depths of one to 20 meters. They prefer rich coral areas and keep on, especially in rock caves, sponges and large coral heads. Adult males form pairs, of which but usually only one in search of food is visible, while the partner is hiding.
