Pervomaiske

Perwomajske (Ukrainian Первомайське; Russian Первомайское / Perwomaiskoje, Crimean Tatar Curci ) is an urban-type settlement and the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons in the north of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Ukraine with 8,900 inhabitants ( 2013).

Geography

Perwomajske is located on the highway 97 km north of Simferopol, the capital of Crimea, about 49 km south of Armjansk. The settlement council community include, in addition to Perwomajske, nor the villages Makariwka ( Макарівка ) with about 35 residents and Pschenytschne ( Пшеничне ) with about 500 inhabitants and the settlement Uporne ( Упорне ) with about 320 inhabitants.

History

The first written mention of the village with its former name Dschurtschy (Ukrainian Джурчи ) dates from 1798. Prior to the Second World War Dschurtschy was one of the few villages in the steppe Crimea, lived in the Estonians. From 28 November 1941 to 12 April 1944, the place of troops of the Wehrmacht was occupied. After the liberation by the Red Army, the village was still renamed in 1944 in Perwomajske. Since 1959 the town has the status of an urban-type settlement.

Rajon

Perwomajske is the administrative seat of the 1935 founded the same name Rajons. The Rajon Perwomajske is located in the northern part of the Crimean Peninsula, but has no access to the Black Sea. It has 35,500 inhabitants and an area of 1474 km ². The population density is 24 inhabitants per km ².
