Pescina

Pescina is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 4212 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of L' Aquila in the Abruzzo region. The community is located about 42.5 kilometers southeast of L' Aquila on regional Parco naturale del Sirente - Velino. Pescina is part of the Comunità Montana Valle del Giovenco.

Traffic

Through the community, the Autostrada A25 leading from Pescara direction Rieti Province. The station Pescina is located on the railway line from Rome to Pescara on Sulmona.

History

In Pescina is the co-cathedral of the former diocese of Marsi, today: Diocese of Avezzano. The bishop of the diocese Marsi was initially located in the neighboring municipality of San Benedetto dei Marsi and was transferred in 1580 after Pescina. With the 1915 earthquake that destroyed large parts Pescinas, 1924 was the relocation to Avezzano.
