Pescosolido

Pescosolido is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Latium, located about 1566 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 117 km east of Rome and 36 km north-east of Frosinone.

Geography

Pescosolido is located on the edge of the plain of Sora on a spur of Brecciosa (1890 m). A large part of its territory belongs to the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. It is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle di Comino.

The nearby towns are Balsorano (AQ ), Campoli Apennines, Sora and Villavallelonga (AQ )

History

Although there are numerous archaeological finds from ancient times, Pescosolido was first mentioned in writing in 1159. 1229 the town was destroyed by Frederick II, as he had fought on the side of the Pope. After the reconstruction, it belonged to the Boncompagni family until 1796 it fell straight to the King of Naples.

1915 an earthquake caused great destruction.

Attractions

  • The parish church of Santi Giovanni Battista ed Evangelista was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. Your present appearance dates back to the Baroque.
  • In the Church of St. Pantaleon, frescoes from the 12th and 13th centuries have been preserved.
