Petaling Jaya ( Malay for successful city) is a city in Malaysia, in the state of Selangor.

Petaling Jaya is the largest city in the state of Selangor, which has grown through its urbanization long preserved to its original borders. Petaling Jaya has since filled the space between the capital Selangors, Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur comprehensively. For the most part consists Petaling Jaya from residential buildings, mostly single and multi- family houses, and some of the largest shopping centers with many small shops, which are typical for Malaysia. In 2006, the 97.2 square kilometers spanning Petaling Jaya has received the city status, the administration is Majlis Bandaraja Petaling Jaya ( MBPJ ). Petaling Jaya is one of the wealthiest cities in the country and has about 500,000 inhabitants, the majority (55%) is of Chinese descent. In many districts, such as in SS2, the proportion is much higher ( about 80%).

In Petaling Jaya, the only German -language school in Malaysia with all branches of education is established. With the Universiti Malaya Petaling Jaya is also home to the oldest and most prestigious public university in the country.
