Petar Stoyanov

Petar Stefanov Stoyanov (also Petar Stefanov Stoyanov wrote, Bulgarian Петър Стефанов Стоянов; born May 25, 1952 in Plovdiv ) is a Bulgarian politician. Of 22 January 1997 to 21 January 2002, he was President of the Republic of Bulgaria, elected as an independent candidate, but with the support of his former party Union of Democratic Forces (SDS ). Life

Stoyanov studied law at the Kliment of Ohrid University of Sofia. From 1978 to 1990 he worked as a lawyer in Plovdiv.

In 1990, he began his political career as a spokesman for the SDS from Plovdiv. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Justice in the ODS government Filip Dimitrov, who was also SDS 1992. In May 1993 he became chairman of the Legal Council of the SDS. In 1994, he was subjected to SDS - deputy in the 37th National Assembly and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Youth, Sports and Tourism. In 1995 he became Deputy Chairman of the SDS, in charge of Internal Affairs.

On 1 June 1996 he became the SDS candidate initially Vorpräsidentenwahlen with 66 percent of the 870,000 votes cast, he was elected with 59.73 percent of 2,507,517 votes cast for President of the Republic of Bulgaria on November 2, 1996 ( Appointed on 22 January 1997).

End of 2001, Petar Stoyanov moved to his defeat back in the presidential election from political life.

Stoyanov is married and has two children.
