PETCO Park

San Diego Padres (MLB ) (since 2004)

The Petco Park is a baseball stadium in San Diego, California. It is the home of the San Diego Padres, a major league baseball team in the National League. Currently, the stadium holds 42,445 spectators.

History

The stadium was built south of the Gaslamp Quarter in close proximity to the San Diego Convention Center. The stadium was originally intended to be ready for the 2002 season. Due to legal and political problems, however, delayed the construction, so that the Padres also had seasons still in Qualcomm Stadium, which they shared until now with the football team San Diego Chargers play in 2003 and 2004.

On April 17, 2008, the Padres and the Colorado Rockies played a game with 22 innings. The Rockies eventually won 2-1. It was the longest game of the MLB for nearly 15 years.

Events

The first concert at Petco Park was that of the Rolling Stones on 11 November 2005. In February 2007, the semi-finals and finals of the first World Baseball Classic were held here. On 4 November 2008 Madonna gave as part of its Sticky & Sweet Tour concert in Petco Park. So she came for the first time in 23 years with a tour back to San Diego.
