Peter Clay " Pete " Carroll ( born September 15 1951 in San Francisco, California) is an American professional American football coach. Since 2010 he has been head coach of the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League ( NFL), with whom he won the Super Bowl XLVIII.

Playing career

Carroll played in the Youth for the Redwood High School, and for the colleges Marin and Pacific ( all California ) primarily on the position of Free Safety's.

Coaching career

Early stations

Pete Carroll began his coaching career in 1973 as an assistant coach for the Pacific College. More coach stations in the college area were Arkansas, Iowa State, Ohio State, North Carolina State and Pacific again, each in various positions as assistant coach.

NFL career (1984-1999)

His first coaching job in the NFL in 1984 was defensive backs coach for the Buffalo Bills. After that, he was from 1985 to 1989 held the same position for the Minnesota Vikings. For the New York Jets, he spent four years as defensive coordinator before he became promoted to head coach in 1994. However, he was released after six wins and ten losses after one season. After another two years as a defensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers engaged him the New England Patriots head coach. The Patriots he led to a division title ( 1997 season ) and two playoff appearances (1997 and 1998). After the Patriots missed the 1999 season in the play-offs, he was released.

USC Trojans (2000-2009)

In 2000 he took over the post of head coach of the Trojans, the football team of the University of Southern California ( USC) in Los Angeles. In the nine years under Pete Carroll won the USC Trojans 97 of their 116 games, won seven conference victories and was voted the best college team in the USA in 2003 and 2004. 2004 defeated the Trojans in the BCS National Championship Game, the Oklahoma Sooners 55:19 and presented with Matt Leinart the Most Valuable Player (MVP). However, in 2010 14 wins, a conference title and the victory in the BCS National Championship Game in 2004 were withdrawn due to irregularities at the former player Reggie Bush.

Seattle Seahawks (2010 -present), victory

On 11 January 2010 Pete Carroll was introduced as Head Coach and Vice President of the Seattle Seahawks. In his first season in Seattle, the Seahawks won despite a negative balance of seven wins and nine defeats NFC West Division thus qualifying for the play- offs. Here they achieved a victory over the favored reigning Super Bowl winners, the New Orleans Saints before a defeat against the Chicago Bears finished the season. In the 2012 season, they succeeded with rookie quarterback Russell Wilson and a score of 11:5 again qualifying for the final round at the Super Bowl. After a win against the Washington Redskins, was after a defeat against the Atlanta Falcons in the last eight terminus. 2013 is the best ever NFL season for Carroll. With 13 wins and three losses he won the Division victory in the NFC West and after playoff wins over the New Orleans Saints and the San Francisco 49ers, he was with the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football Conference champion. The Seahawks have qualified thus for the Super Bowl XLVIII. According to a superior 43:8 victory against the Denver Broncos Pete Carroll won on February 2, 2014 his first Super Bowl. This title is the hitherto biggest success in club history the Seahawks.

Pete Carroll is married to Glena, has two sons, Brennan and Nathan, and a daughter, Jaime, and two grandchildren. His son Nathan works as assistant coach also for the Seattle Seahawks.
