Pete Minger

Pete Minger ( born January 22, 1943 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, † April 13, 2000 in Pompano Beach ( Florida)) was an American jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player.

Pete Minger came from a musical family; his mother and grandmother played piano in the local church. His brother was a jazz pianist. He first played the saxophone, then switched to the trumpet. The early 1960s, began his musical career at Chubby Jackson. From 1970 to 1980 he was the Count Basie Orchestra, listen to, inter alia, on the album Digital III at Montreux. He participated also to Basie collaborations with Big Joe Turner, Milt Jackson and Ella Fitzgerald. After his work with Basie, he moved to Florida, acquired in 1985 a degree in music at the University of Miami. Later he taught there, but otherwise worked full time as a musician. In 1990 he went with the Big Band Frank Wess on tour to hear on the album Live at the Concord Jazz Festival in 1990; He also worked with Mel Tormé. In the jazz scene of Florida he made primarily with two albums attracted attention, Minger Paintings ( published by Jazz Alliance 1991) and Look To The Sky (with Concord Jazz, 1992)
