Pete Rozelle

Alwin Jay " Pete " Rozelle ( March 1, 1926 * in South Gate, California, † December 6, 1996 in Rancho Santa Fe, California ) was an American influential sports official.

Rozelle took over in 1960, the Office of the Commissioners of the National Football League ( NFL), the professional football league in American football. Thanks to his skillful management team, football has developed into by far the most popular sport in the United States. Rozelle realized early on the importance of television marketing, drove the merger with the rival AFL ahead. During his tenure, the Super Bowl was introduced, the single largest sporting event in the world. Rozelle is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

1963 Rozelle was elected in recognition of the expansion of the NFL by the magazine Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.
