Pete Visclosky

Peter John " Pete " Visclosky ( born August 13, 1949 in Gary, Indiana ) is an American politician. Since 1985 he represents the state of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Pete Visclosky studied for his time at Andrean High School in Merrillville to 1970 at Indiana University Northwest in his birthplace of Gary. After a subsequent law studies at the University of Notre Dame and its made ​​in 1973 admitted to the bar he began to work in his new profession. In 1982 he completed his legal knowledge with studies at Georgetown University in Washington.

Politically, Visclosky joined the Democratic Party. He belonged to the staff of Congressman Adam Benjamin and was a member of the 1977-1980 administration of the Grants Committee ( Committee on Appropriations ). Between 1980 and 1982 he was also a member of the administration of the budget committee ( Committee on the Budget).

In the congressional elections of 1984 Visclosky was elected in the first district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Katie Hall on January 3, 1985. After the previous 13 elections, he can exercise his mandate in Congress today. In his time as a congressman fell among other things, the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, the Iraq war and the military mission in Afghanistan. Visclosky voted in 2002 against the war in Iraq. He is a member of the Appropriations Committee and three subcommittees.
