Pete Yorn

Peter " Pete " Yorn ( born July 27, 1974 in Montville, New Jersey) is an American singer-songwriter.

Life

Yorn grew up as the son of a dentist, and a teacher in New Jersey. His first instrument was the drums of his brother; at the age of 12 he started to play the guitar.

Yorn completed a course of study at Syracuse University, then moved to Los Angeles, where he was discovered by the film producer Bradley Thomas, with the result that Yorn 's songs Strange Condition and Just Another in 2000 for the soundtrack of the film I, Myself & Irene contributed. Just Another was later also in the movie Bandits! and the television series Dawson 's Creek, Felicity and Smallville used.

Was published in 2001 Yorns debut album Musicforthemorningafter with Columbia Records. The album placed in the Billboard charts, where it came to # 111 in April 2002 and reached gold status in the USA. For his second album Day I Forgot, which was published in 2003, Yorn has worked with, among others, Peter Buck and Josh Freese; in the American charts, he managed with this album up to rank 18 Three years later, another studio album: On Nightcrawler Dave Grohl and the Dixie Chicks Martie Maguire and members Natalie Maines are heard among others.

In 2009, Yorn initially released the album Back & Forth, taken from the Saddle Creek producer Mike Mogis. In September of the year also Break Up, the duets by Yorn with actress Scarlett Johansson appeared contains.

Influences and relationships with other artists

Yorn is also responsible for a variety of cover versions: For the film Shrek 2 he took the Buzzcocks classic Ever Fallen In Love on, also can be found on his albums and various compilations pieces of the Smiths, the Ramones, Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen and Warren Zevon. On tour he went among other things, REM, the Dixie Chicks, David Bowie, Sunny Day Real Estate, Foo Fighters and Coldplay, as opening acts at his own concerts functioned among other Phantom Planet and JJ72. The Vines call Yorn as an influence. As own influences Yorn called the Smiths, Velvet Underground, The Rolling Stones, The Stooges, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, Pavement and Guided by Voices.
