Peter Ammon

Peter Ammon ( born February 23, 1952 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German diplomat and was 2008-2011 State Secretary in the Foreign Office. Since August 2011 he has been the German ambassador in Washington. He goes to London in 2014; be appointed successor is Peter Wittig.

Life

Peter Ammon studied mathematics, physics and economics. From 1975 to 1978 he earned his doctorate in economics and has held a Research Associate position at the Free University of Berlin.

After joining the Foreign Service, he attended until 1980 the Diplomatic Academy in Bonn. His first station abroad led him to the embassy to London and following the message to Dakar. He then moved to the Economic Department of the Foreign Office. From 1989 to 1991 he was transferred to the German Embassy in New Delhi before he again came to Bonn, this time in the planning staff. Ammon from 1996 to 1999 Head of the Policy Planning Staff of the Federal President. By 2001, he was the ambassador and head of the Economic Department of the Embassy in Washington, DC. Was followed by a six-year service as head of the Department of Economy and Sustainable Development in the Foreign Office. At the same time he was employed as a Sous- Sherpa for the G -8 summits. From July 2007 to June 2008 was Secretary Ammon Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in France. 2 August 2008 was appointed State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office ( StS -A) Peter Ammon Foreign Minister Steinmeier, where he succeeded George Boomgaarden.

In August 2011, Ammon was appointed as the successor of Klaus Scharioth with the German ambassador in Washington.

Peter Ammon is married and has two children.
