Peter-André Alt
Peter- André Alt ( born June 16, 1960 in Berlin ) is a German literary scholar and president of the Freie Universität Berlin.
Life
Alt studied from 1979 to 1984 German, political science, history and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin, where he became his doctorate in 1984 and his habilitation in 1993. From 1987 to 1992 he was a research assistant at the chair by Hans -Jürgen Schings at the Free University, from 1992 to 1993, he held a postdoctoral fellowship from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft ( DFG), from 1994 to 1995 he was a Heisenberg Fellow of the DFG. In 1995 he was appointed to a full professorship of Modern German Literature at the Ruhr- University Bochum, 2002, he moved to a professorship at the University of Würzburg, since 2005 he succeeded his teacher Schings Professor of Modern German Literature at the Free University of Berlin.
Alt 2008-2010 was Director of the Dahlem Research School ( Center for Graduate Studies ) of the Free University of Berlin, and as commissioner from 2007 to 2010, the Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School of Literary Studies ( Excellence funding from the Federal and the Länder). He is a member of numerous advisory boards ( German Literature Archive in Marbach, Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for the History and Theory of Biography ) and reviewer of the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD. He has held guest professorships, among others in Trieste (Italy ); Research stays have him as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Cambridge, in the United States ( Princeton University), to Italy (Rome, La Villa, Como) and the Czech Republic ( Prague) out. Since July 2008, the board of the Old German Schiller Society operates. On 12 May 2010 Alt was elected by the Advanced Academic Senate President of the Free University of Berlin; since June 3, 2010 he has been in office. Since July 2012, Old President of the German Schiller Society, of the association of the German Literature Archive in Marbach.
Old is married to the author Sabine old and lives with her and their two sons in Berlin.
Work
Alts publications since 1985 include 16 monographs, about 90 tips, 25 reviews, several editions, four anthologies for German and European literature of the 17th - 18th and the 20th century. Special historic main focus is on the early modern period, the Weimar Classicism and the literature of classical modernism.
The focus of his research questions of historicity and normativity are poetological and aesthetic systems of order, the tragedy story of the relationship between knowledge and literature in the Early Modern Period ( dreams, imagination, Hermeticism, paradox ) and the reflection of the political theology in texts of the 17th century. An important area of work Alts is also the literary biography, both in terms of their specific methodology as well as in relation to problems of literary authorship.
Awards
In 2005 got old for his two-volume biography of Schiller ( 2000), the Schiller Prize of the city of Marbach am Neckar. In 2008 he was awarded in the framework of the " Humanities" Opus Magnum Research Fellowship of the Volkswagen and Thyssen Foundations for the conclusion of his book project aesthetics of evil.
