Peter Banks

Peter Banks ( born July 15, 1947 in Barnet, Hertfordshire, † March 7, 2013 in London when Peter Brock William Banks) was a British rock guitarist.

Early career

Peter Banks and Chris Squire played in a band called The Syn, which brought out two singles until 1967.

1968 Banks played well in the short term band Neat Change, with whom he also recorded a single.

After his friend Squire Clive Bailey had joined his band Mabel Greer 's Toy Shop, Banks also played a certain amount of time in this band. Banks left the band again, now vocalist Jon Anderson and drummer Bill Bruford joined the group, and after Bailey retired, also met keyboardist Tony Kaye to the band. Banks also came back and the band took a new name, proposed by Banks, to: Yes.

Career with Yes

Atlantic Records took the band under contract in 1969 and the debut album Yes it was released. Next year we worked on a new album ( Time And A Word). Anderson and Squire decided that the band was accompanied by an orchestra, much to the displeasure of Banks, whose guitar parts more and more disappeared from the recording or note were overlaid for note. After the album was put on the market, Banks left disappointed the band and was replaced by Steve Howe. At shortly afterwards appeared promotional film clips you can hear Banks play, but sees Steve Howe. Steve Howe was also depicted on the U.S. cover of the album, which was also used for the later CD release.

Working with other bands

After Banks Yes has left behind, he played a short time in 1970 Blodwyn Pig and was a guest session musician on an album by Chris Harwood. In 1971, he founded the band Flash, which took up to 1973 three respected albums: Flash, In the Can and Out of Our Hands.

1973, shortly after the publication of the last flash album, Banks released his first solo album Two Sides of Peter Banks out on a number of well known guest musicians can be found: bassist John Wetton, drummer Phil Collins, guitarist Steve Hackett and flash colleagues guitarist Jan Akkerman, Ray Bennett and Mike Hough.

Banks took in the sequence under the band name Empire together with his then- wife and a few other musicians until 1980, three albums, which were not published until mid-1990. In addition, Banks continued to work as a studio musician.

In 1993, Banks released his second solo album, Instinct, exclusively instrumental pieces were completely recorded by him alone. On his next solo album Only Self Contained (1995 ) he was supported only by a keyboardist.

1997 Banks was the main reason why that a double - live CD entitled Something's Coming (title in the United States: Beyond and Before ), was launched by the early recordings of the band Yes. In addition, he released a live album of the band with Flash Psychosync. Banks contributed in 1995 for the Yes tribute album Tales From Yesterday when a new version of Astral Traveller. Banks was again increasingly active as a studio musician before 1999, his fourth solo album reduction brought out, that was all the style of Instinct and Self Contained. In 2000 he compiled the album Can I Play You Something? , The old, some never released material of the band The Syn, Mabel Greer 's Toyshop, Yes and included.

Recent work

1998 Banks joined forces with Geoff Downes during " Yestival " ( a festival for Yesfans, play in the various ex -Yes- musicians ) on. The resulting there idea to bring Peter Banks to Asia, little was later discarded. Banks went on, inter alia, with the Yes tribute band Fragile and also worked with Oliver Wakeman (son of Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman ) on whose albums Jabberwocky (2000) and Hound of the Baskervilles (2002) together.

Banks also founded with Andrew Booker and Nick Cottam a new, active on improvisation based band called Harmony in Diversity. They played a short tour in England in March 2006.

Autobiography

In 2002, Banks put in cooperation with the Ghost Writer Billy James his autobiography Beyond and before - before The Formative Years of Yes, which can be assumed different from the title, is devoted not only the early years of Yes, but Banks ' entire career.
