Peter Barnes (playwright)

Peter Barnes ( born January 10, 1931 in London, England; † July 1, 2004 ) was a British screenwriter, film producer and film director. Also, Barnes worked as a playwright.

Biography

Life

Although born in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Peter Barnes grew up on the British east coast. In Stroud ( Gloucestershire ), he attended the school, and entered as an amateur comedian on in the cafes of his parents.

After his military service in the Royal Air Force, he tried it briefly as a councilor in the London County Council, but had to quickly realize that he could not get anything to the life of a politician.

Barnes took distance education in theology, and began as a film critic, editor, and finally to work as a screenwriter. 1959 was filmed with The White Trap Barnes first screenplay. In 1968 he celebrated with The Ruling Class in the theater premiere of Nottingham. His play "Red Noses " in 1985 for selected " Best New piece" in London. More epic pieces like " The Bewitched " and " Laughter " cemented his reputation as a playwright a meaning that only Harold Pinter and Tom Stoppard reached in his generation in England.

Although he wrote many screenplays, his name was still known in the 1990s. So he wrote the screenplay for Enchanted April and in 1993 nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award.

Between 1989 and 1994, he directed four films directed by British TV, but could not build on the success of the author Peter Barnes.

Mid-1990s was Barnes author at Hallmark, and wrote some fantasy adapted materials in film screenplays, including most recently in 2000 Arabian Nights - Adventure of 1001 nights.

Family

Peter Barnes was married twice. In 1958 he married Charlotte Beck, with whom he was married until her death in 1995. The couple had no children. In the same year he married Christine Horn that their daughter Leela gave birth to 2000. In 2002 - Barnes was now 71 years old - he was a father again. This time, he became the father of triplets, sons Nathaniel and Zachary and daughter Abigail.

Peter Barnes died only two years later, aged 73, of a stroke.
