Peter Borwein

Peter Benjamin Borwein ( born October 5, 1953 in St Andrews ) is a Canadian mathematician who as co- discoverer of the Bailey - Borwein - Plouffe formula (after D. Bailey, P. Borwein and S. Plouffe ) for the calculation of any hexadecimal place was known by π ( without knowledge of previous digits). He is known as a representative of Experimental Mathematics.

Borwein studied at the University of Western Ontario (Bachelor 1974) and the University of British Columbia, where in 1976 he took his Master's degree and received his doctorate in 1979 with David W. Boyd. As a post - graduate student, he was 1979/80 as a NATO Fellow at Oxford University. In 1990 he became a professor at Dalhousie University, he is since 1993 professor at Simon Fraser University.

His older brother Jonathan Borwein, with whom he often works, is also a mathematician. With it, he received the 1993 Chauvenet Prize.

Borwein has been married since 1980 and has three daughters.
