Peter Christopherson

Peter Martin Christopherson, called Sleazy ( born February 27, 1955 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England; † November 24, 2010 in Bangkok, Thailand), was a British musician, music video director and photographer.

Life

Christopherson, who had studied stage design and computer programming, and participated in the performance art group COUM transmission in the early 1970s, was one of the founding members of the industrial band Throbbing Gristle and the associated record label Industrial Records. He developed the first technical methods and apparatuses for synthesizer sound loops (Tone loops ) that can be referred to as analog precursor of modern sampling and Final Scratch. He is thus considered forerunners of modern electronic music, from groups such as Depeche Mode drew their suggestions. Christopherson was also 1981 Founding member of the music group Psychic TV and joined after his departure in 1984, founded by John Balance band Coil.

Versatile talented Christopherson showed himself as a designer for the iconic design group Hipgnosis by Storm Thorgerson, who designed many famous record covers. He also stands out as a director with video productions for well-known music groups. Among other things, he made a music video for Coil, a cover version of Tainted Love, which is today in the archives of the Museum of Modern Art. He also produced numerous clips for other artists such as Rage Against the Machine, Front 242, Marcy Playground, Gavin Friday, Nine Inch Nails and Others

Together with the other Throbbing Gristle - Cosey Fanni Tutti band members, Chris Carter and Genesis P -Orridge came around 2002 to a surprising reunion for fans of Throbbing Gristle. After the death of his musical partner John Balance Christopherson announced the dissolution of the coil. In 2008 he founded with Ivan Pavlov, the duo Soisong.

Christopherson died at his home in Bangkok during sleep.
