Life

Peter Damm began his instrumental training with 11 years on the violin. First experiments on the French horn, he undertook in 1951 with Franz Nauber ( 1911-2001 ). After briefly working as a forestry apprentice before he studied with Karl Biehlig 1951-1957 at the Academy of Music Weimar horn.

In 1957 he was appointed as principal horn in the orchestra of the stages the city of Gera. From 1959 to 1969 he played in the same position at the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under the direction of Franz Konwitschny, Václav Neumann and other famous conductors. From 1969 to 2002 the dam was a member of the Staatskapelle Dresden.

In addition, he was a professor of horn at the University of Music Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden, led and leads international master classes, seminars and workshops in Europe, Japan and North America.

Dam is an honorary member of the International Horn Society, the Horn Society Bavaria and the Staatskapelle Dresden.
