Peter Dvorský

Peter Dvorsky ( born September 25, 1951 in Partizánske, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak opera singer (tenor )

Life

Dvorsky studied at the Comenius University in Bratislava in the singing teacher Ida Černecká, then he looked at the Slovak National Theatre. In 1974 he won the first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. In the following years he became known internationally. Starting from the Vienna State Opera ( debut 1976), followed by other appearances at international opera stages. In 1977 he made ​​his debut as Alfredo in " La Traviata " at the Metropolitan Opera New York and a year later at La Scala.

Dvorsky was, among other National Artists and state winners of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and in 1987 was appointed chamber singer in the Vienna State Opera. In 1998, he became UNICEF ambassador in Slovakia.

Since 2006, directs Dvorsky the opera house in the Slovak city of Košice, and, since 1999, the International Peter Dvorsky Festival in Jaromerice. In 2012, he received the CENTROPE prize for the children's song contest " Slávik Slovenska " (Nightingale of Slovakia), he internationalized.
