Peter Enckelman ( born March 10, 1977 in Turku ) is a Finnish footballer who currently plays at IFK Mariehamn.

Career

The goalkeeper started his football career with TPS Turku in his native Finland. From 1995 to 1998 he was playing in the first team. From 1998 to 2003 Enckelman went to the island to Aston Villa. After a few blunders in Birmingham in 2003, he moved to Blackburn Rovers. From 2008 to 2010, he plays for Welsh club Cardiff City in England's second league. Early August 2010 Peter moved to the Scottish first division club FC Enckelman St. Johnstone.

Enckelman played so far (January 2012) twelve times in the Finnish national football team, where he made his debut on 29 March 2000 in a match against Wales. His most recent deployment, he completed on 3 March 2010 in a match against Malta.

Trivia

Enckelman was known by a mistake, as, rolled down a back pass him by Olof Mellberg, who emerged from a throw over his foot into his own net and was seen as a goal for the opponents. This goal was not to identify and has long been debated whether his foot had touched the ball or not - only in the first case, the goal should not have been recognized by the referee.
