Peter Fleischmann

Peter Fleischmann ( born July 26, 1937 in Zweibrücken) is a German film director.

Life

Fleischmann studied at the German Institute for Film and Television ( DIFF) in Munich and at the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques ( IDHEC ) in Paris. 1963 to 1965 he directed the short and children's films. His documentary Fall of the bum on the generation gap in Munich in 1967 attracted some attention.

After the socio- critical drama Hunting Scenes from Lower Bavaria by Martin Sperr 1969 he created his first full-length feature film. He was regarded since then as a representative of the New German Cinema. Together with Volker Schlöndorff in 1969 he founded the film production company Hallelujah film. Also Fleischmanns later works focus on the problem of enforced adaptation of individuals to an uncomprehending environment. Again and again it turns out to be the supposedly evil as good and the supposedly good as evil. In the 1990s, he was also involved in the management of the Babelsberg Studios (formerly UFA and DEFA ).

In 2006 he turned after a long break, a movie, My friend, the murderer, a documentary about his friend Bernhard Kimmel.
