Peter Germer

Peter Germer ( born September 26, 1949 in Baasdorf, district Köthen ) is a former German wrestler.

Career

Peter Germer began as a teenager with the rings. Soon, his great talent, especially for the free style showed. In youth and junior level he was in his respective age and weight class soon became the best wrestlers in the GDR. He grew up to the age of 20 to a relatively light Superschwergewichtler who convinced by his good technique and his speed. His club was the SC Motor Jena. There he was trained by Alois Pachmann. In 1969 he was first GDR champion in the seniors in the heavyweight division. In the same year he was also employed at the European Championships in Sofia and won on his debut a bronze medal in the heavyweight division. At the 1969 World Championship in Mar del Plata in Argentina, East Germany did not participate.

Also at the European Championships in 1970 in East Berlin Peter Germer won a bronze medal, but this time in the super heavyweight. He lost it only against the Soviet athletes Leonid Kitov. In the same year he finished 3rd also at the World Championships in Edmonton. He had to admit defeat to the Olympic champion and multiple world champion Alexander Medved Soviet.

At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 Peter Germer won only against Ştefan Stîngu from Romania and had to be beaten back by Alexander Medved, but took a good 6th place.

1973 paused Peter Germer on the international wrestling mat. 1974 in Madrid, he was back again at the European Championships and was respectable fifth winner. At the World Championships 1974 in Istanbul, he played his last international championship, in which he once again reached a respectable sixth place.

Meanwhile, a rival him in the GDR was in Roland Gehrke adult, who replaced him on the international wrestling mat. He therefore ended his career as an active wrestler and was a very successful coach in Jena, among other things, Andreas Schröder -formed.
