Peter Hook

Peter Hook ( born February 13, 1956 in Salford, Greater Manchester, England ) is a British musician. He was bassist of the post-punk band Joy Division and entered in the same function after the breakup of the band New Order at.

During his time in Joy Division Hook was described as a " bass player who thought he was playing lead guitar ." His distinctive style of play he also maintained at the follow-up band New Order. Hook contributed further in the background vocals on several songs by Joy Division and sang on the New Order LP Movement from 1981 two songs ( Dreams Never End and Doubts Even Here).

With the increasing use of bass synthesizers by New Order ( especially on the published 1989 album Technique) was Hooks bass playing always melodic and rhythmic, making the sound sounded more like a baritone guitar and a bass.

Hook recorded an album with the band Revenge and two with Monaco as a bass player and singer. In the late 1980s he also began to work as a producer for bands such as Inspiral Carpets and The Stone Roses. In 2003, he steered his distinctive bass playing to a few songs on the album Morning Sci- Fi hybrid in the group, including the single True To shape. On 4 May 2007 Hook announced that he would no longer work with Bernard Sumner. This has been interpreted for some time as the end of New Order, Sumner declared and New Order drummer Stephen Morris, believes that it is hook free to leave the band, however, continue to insist that New Order.

In September 2010, Hooks band project sparked called " Free Bass " in which Andy Rourke ( ex- bassist of The Smiths ) and Gary Mounfield ( ex- bassist from The Stone Roses, currently in Primal Scream ) were involved on. Currently Hook works as a DJ.

Since the opening of the club FAC 251 in Manchester in February 2010 Peter Hook performs with his band The Light. Under the name " Peter Hook & The Light", the band has been touring in 2011 and played cover versions of Joy Division, especially the album Unknown Pleasures.
