Peter Hughes (Irish politician)

Peter Hughes (Irish Peadar Ó hAodha, unknown *, † June 24, 1954 ) was an Irish Sinn Féin politician and the Cumann na nGaedheal.

Biography

Hughes was elected in 1921 as the candidate of Sinn Féin as Deputy ( Teachta Dala ) of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ) and represented there initially until 1923, the interests of the constituency of Louth - Meath. He was most recently within the cleaved due to the Anglo -Irish Treaty Sinn Féin, Arthur Griffith to the supporters of this Agreement ( Pro- Treaty ).

After retiring from the Sinn Féin he joined the Cumann na nGaedheal and took it between 1923 to 1927 for the constituency of Louth in the Dáil.

During this time he was on 21 November 1924 to 23 June 1927 as Minister of Defence and Member of the Executive Council of the Irish Free State.
