Career as a boxer
His first participation in Boxeuropameisterschaften was in 1969 in Bucharest. There, he won the European Championship third at heavyweight. The following European Championships 1971 in Madrid and 1973 in Belgrade, he was in each European vice-champion. In Belgrade, he lost it in the final Soviet athlete Viktor Uljanitsch on points. Hussing whose special blow was the liver hook, won at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 for the Federal Republic of Germany the bronze medal after he was defeated in the semifinals against Teofilo Stevenson (Cuba) by knockout. He was therefore one of the favorites at the European Championships 1975 in Katowice, subject to there, however, the Poland Andrzej Biegalski by heavy knockout in 1977 the tournament was in Hall (then East Germany) is discharged. Because of that political tensions no West German team was sent and thus Hussing was denied participation. At the European Championships in 1979 in Cologne, he then achieved his greatest success - he was European champion.
1982 in Munich, he was third in the box world championships in the super heavyweight division. In total he played 439 fights in his career. Peter Hussing should also challenge a boxing match against Muhammad Ali. However, this did not happen because his manager had a serious car accident. Hussing was 16 -times German champion (in series from 1969 to 1983 and 1985). He coached in his career, among other things, the boxing club Herdorf.
Outside of sport
Hussing graduated from the Technical School and studied from 1974 to 1980 architecture at the University of Siegen. Since the end of his sports career, he worked as a construction manager.
As of September 29, 2008 was Hussing mayor of his home town. He was very socially engaged and participated in charity missions and cycling in favor of children with cancer in part ( " Tour of Hope ", " tour Gingko ").
Due to its exposure for children with cancer and in recognition of his boxing career Peter Hussing was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in Mainz on 11 July 2008.
On September 8, 2012 Hussing died in his hometown Brachbach of cancer.
