Peter Kiesewetter

Peter Kiesewetter ( born May 1, 1945 in Marktheidenfeld; † 3 December 2012) was a German composer.

Life

Kiesewetter studied composition with Günter Bialas from 1966 at the Munich Academy of Music, where he remained subsequently joined as a lecturer in music theory, ear training and tuition. In parallel, he studied music and worked as a journalist, including as a juror for the Prize of the German Record Critics. As a freelance employee of the Bayerischer Rundfunk, he composed the music for many feature and radio play productions of the School Radio.

A stay in Israel in 1991 was a key experience for Kiesewetter and shaped his future work. Many of his pieces have titles in Hebrew.

As a lecturer in composition Peter Kiesewetter initially worked at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich; In 1991 he became honorary professor of composition at the Munich Academy of Music, in 1992 professor at the Musikhochschule Hannover. Due to a serious illness he had to give up teaching.
