Peter Levene, Baron Levene of Portsoken

Peter Keith Levene, Baron Levene of Portsoken KBE ( born December 8, 1941) is Chief Executive Officer of Starr Underwriting Agents Limited and former Lord Mayor of London.

Life

Lord Levene has a long and varied career in business, banking and politics.

He went to the City of London School and studied at the University of Manchester where he earned a degree in economics and political science. He went in 1963 to United Scientific Holdings, a small company that has developed into a major supplier of British and foreign armies. He got there on up to the position of the Board in 1981.

He worked at Morgan Stanley and Wasserstein Perella. In the next few years he was Director of Bankers Trust internationally and then Vice Executive Board of Deutsche Bank. From 2002 to 2011 he was CEO of Lloyd's.

He was a personal adviser to Defence Minister Michael Heseltine, then Permanent Sektetär the Head of the Procurement Department. He then worked in a number of other government posts. He was, inter alia, Advisor to the Minister of the Environment, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Chancellor of the Exchequer. During this time he was also on the board of the Docklands Light Railway and then Chairman and CEO of Canary Wharf Ltd.. In addition, he was in the management of J. Sainsbury plc and Total.

From 1994 to 2012, he was Alderman ( Alderman ) of the City of London and un the years 1995/96 Sheriff of London. From 1989 to 1999 he was Lord Mayor of London. He encouraged and supported during this period the growth of London as a financial center. In 1989 he was knighted and in 1997 he was raised as Lord Levene of Portsoken for Life Peer.

Lord Levene sits in four supervisory boards at General Dynamics UK Limited, Haymarket Group Ltd, Euro tunnel sa and China Construction Bank. In the House of the Lord, he is a member of the Committee on Economic. The Secretary of Defense appointed him in July 2010 as Chief Executive of the Committee for army reform, which should develop proposals to restructure the Vertreidigungsministeriums. The Committee's report was presented in June 2011 and is being implemented.

He speaks German, French and Italian.

He is married to Wendy; they have three children.
