Peter M. Liba

Peter Michael Liba, CM, OM ( born May 10, 1940 in Winnipeg, † June 21, 2007 ) was a Canadian journalist and manager. From 1999 to 2004 he acted as vice- governor of the province of Manitoba.

Biography

Liba worked from 1957 as a journalist; first for two small local newspapers from 1960 for the Winnipeg Tribune. From 1968 to 1973 he worked for the party leadership of the Manitoba Liberal Party as an administrative assistant. In 1974 he co-founded the media group CanWest. As a result, he was CEO of the television stations CKND Television in Manitoba and SaskWest Television in Saskatchewan. In 1993 he was promoted to Vice President of the Group and was responsible for the business in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Chile in this function.

In addition to his professional activities, Liba supported numerous charitable and cultural organizations. In 1984 he received the Order of Canada. Governor General Roméo LeBlanc sworn him on 2 March 1999 as Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. This representative office he held until 30 June 2004. Also in 1999, he was the first person who was awarded the newly created Order of Manitoba.
