Peter McLagan

Peter McLagan (* 1823 in Demerara; † August 31, 1900 ) was a British businessman and politician of the Liberal Party.

Peter McLagan was born in 1823 as the third son of Peter McLagan. He attended the Tillycoultry School and studied at the University of Edinburgh.

McLagan was a landowner in Pumpherston, West Lothian. In 1863, he left it there degrade slate. In 1866 he founded together with Edward Meldrum and George Simpson, the E Meldrum & Company. The company operated the Boghall Shale Oil Works and Stankards Oil Works. 1871 led the entrepreneurial activity McLagans and his two partners to the creation of Uphall Mineral Oil Company Ltd..

From July 11, 1865 until his resignation in 1893, he represented the constituency of Linlithgowshire in the House of Commons. On 2 June 1893 he Crown Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead and was thus retired from the House of Commons.

In August 1900, he died at the age of 77 years. McLagan married in 1876 Elizabeth Anne Taylor ( † 1882). The marriage remained childless.
