In 1982 he founded the architecture magazine " outline ", which he held until 1994 as publisher and editor, and subsequently in close collaboration with Elisabeth Schweeger, initiated and became an important forum for architectural and art theoretical controversy.

In his capacity as member of the management of R. Svoboda & Co. office facilities, he presented for the first time in Austria a design program of classical modernism by Marcel Breuer, Bauhaus, to Achille Castiglioni. The exhibition " Achille Castiglioni. Room installation, objects and Industrial Design " curated Peter NOEVER 1984, two years before his appointment as director, in what was then the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts Vienna.

As director of the MAK he headed from 1988 to 1993, in collaboration with architect Sepp Müller, the general reconstruction of the museum and in 1994 founded the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles, California. Large international attention was headed by NOEVER Museumsneudefinition and its reconstruction, especially because of the reorganization of the collection. On behalf of Peter NOEVER have some of the greatest artists, created by their intervention in the MAK unique site-specific works of art that still today, after nearly 20 years, be used as a guide and a challenge for nascent art institutions and museums. For these artistic interventions Peter Noever was included Donald Judd, Jenny Holzer, Förg, Franz Graf, Barbara Bloom, Eichinger or Knechtl, Manfred Wakolbinger and Heimo Zobernig, but also ( for artistic interventions in the outer space ) Walter Pichler, James Wines / SITE Gregor Eichinger, Franz West, Michael Kienzer and James Turrell win. The functional and structural reorganization of the MAK ( the developed world to this day under the by him jointly with Catherine Rollier / Walter Bohatsch protected trademarks surgery and was reopened on 1 May 1993 ) was mainly carried out with great international interest. The Euro Europe in Strasbourg recorded in 1996, the MAK Museum of the Year from.

Schindler ). Peter NOEVER initiated for the MAK Urban Future Initiative ( UFI), Los Angeles.

On 23 February 2011 the premature withdrawal Noevers was from his position as director of the MAK.Vorausgegangen were media allegations of misuse of private museum funds. It turned out that events in the museum were far more expensive than estimated. The public prosecutor's office on November 14, 2011, the proceedings for infidelity. This was due to the deposit of 220,000 euros as active repentance. Since, therefore, was omitted the reason for his dismissal as MAK Director, he is challenging them to work on the court and calls granted him at regular termination of employment claims in the amount of 482 700 euros.

A becoming known by the courier Draft report of the Court was 2012 new allegations publicly that affected 6600 Missing Objects among others. His successor at the MAK, Christoph Thun- Hohenstein, contrary to the allegations it had disappeared thousands of objects, but the details are misleading, some shrinkage rich through two world wars to the imperial time back, and complained about it, the lack of a unified database. In addition, the head of collections that go behind their former boss; since the 1960s have we to complain no more losses. Only 65 objects of the Asian collection would be missing with the comment without further information, said John Wieninger, and asked the Court to review the alleged shortages again. Peter NOEVER held in an APA statement on media reporting on the Court's draft report states that he received so far neither the report to face, nor would have the opportunity to comment. He stressed that the events in question had, contrary to the opinion of the Court very probably benefited from the MAK and also causes significant sponsor benefits. The allegations made in the report against him he could invalidate any time. Therefore, he had also chosen the path of referral to independent courts.

In March 2013, the Court confirmed its allegations. These included, inter alia, that NOEVER was an average of 79 days from 221 days a year traveling. Here are the "other expenses" - ie, those that were not directly related to exhibition preparations - rose in 2001 to 2010 by 715 %; NOEVER netted an average of 81,000 euros per year on travel expenses. Expenses for birthday parties in the amount of 172,000 euros and 11,000 euros in expenses for Noevers book " chronic obsessive. The presence must first be fought, " which has sold only eleven copies, the Court of Auditors report also leads to how different distributed resources critical within the MAK for personnel and training, and other details. NOEVER still can not comprehend that everything has always been transparent and that he was " the maxim of economy followed " the allegations. Minister Claudia Schmied stated that NOEVER despite all the justified criticism " has done much for Austrian art, for artists at home and abroad."

Peter NOEVER lives and works in Vienna and is married to a lawyer and arts administrator Elizabeth NOEVER - Ginthör. His daughter from his first marriage, Ixy Nova NOEVER, is a social anthropologist, filmmaker and university lecturer at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
