Peter of Pisa

Peter of Pisa ( † 799 ) was an early medieval scholar at the court of Charlemagne.

Peter taught in Pisa Latin grammar. As part of the promoted by Karl Carolingian educational reforms he was one of the first scholars at his court ( probably around 774). According to Einhard taught the already old Peter Karl in Latin ( Vita Karoli Magni 25). With some scholars at Charlemagne courtyard, he was in contact, as with Paul the Deacon.

Peter was not an original author and well- tended to a certain vanity. He wrote a dedicated Karl Grammar and moved to this end antique, especially late antique art approach, including Aelius Donatus and Priscian. He also wrote poetry.
