Peter of Vaux de Cernay

Peter of Vaux -de- Cernay (franz: Pierre des Vaux -de- Cernay, * 1182, † after 1218 ) was a Cistercian monk from the Abbey of Vaux -de- Cernay and a chronicler of the crusade against the Albigensians.

In his Historia Albigensis Peter describes the Albigensian crusade in a very partisan way, by interpreting it as a struggle between good and evil. Simon IV de Montfort is celebrated him as a hero and exemplary Crusaders. However, he also described in detail the occurrence of the Cathars in the Languedoc, on the ecclesiastical hierarchy and rites, which its report is one of the main sources on this subject.

Peters uncle, Guido, was the abbot of Vaux -de- Cernay. This rose to a result of the Albigensian Crusade, Bishop of Carcassonne.
